On our latest Online People Talking episode, Jen Barkan and Mike Lyon revealed the 2022 Home Builder Follow-Up Survey, our most comprehensive and in-depth builder shop to date! No one has done it longer, approached it more in-depth, or shared more insights. 

In partnership with Clear Evaluations, we surveyed a random sampling of 100 home builders from the 2022 Builder 100 and Next 100 lists, as designated by Builder magazine. After analyzing the data we then publish and share these results with the home building industry so that builders can identify areas for improvement and implement the people, processes, and tools to make it happen.

  • Overall, we’re seeing the best results in all the years we’ve conducted this survey. This is because 100% of the builders shopped had an Online Sales Specialist compared to previous years that did not.  
  • Overall better initial email response but low on the initial outbound call and VERY low on the initial text response especially since we expressed consent to text in the inquiry.
  • Most of the response time across all 3 forms (phone, email, and text) of communication averages between 1-4 hours. This is longer than expected by Do You Convert standards as well as customer expectations.
  • The majority of builders personalized their initial response by addressing the question and community in the inquiry. This is a good improvement from the last time we benchmarked personalization.
  • One of the biggest opportunities for improvement is in what has become a disjointed handoff process. Onsite sales people need to be refreshed on best practices in order to keep your scheduled appointments from canceling.
